I would like to share a few of my favorite quotes.
“I want to do something splendid…
Something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead…
I think I shall write books.” ~ Louisa May Alcott
“Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’s the answer to everything. … It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.” ~ Enid Bagnold
Top Reasons Why You Haven’t Written Your Book
You don’t know where to begin
I personally didn’t know where to begin writing myself and simply planned things out and sat down and wrote. That’s probably the easiest way to get started.
The easiest way to get started is to set aside 2-3 hours of uninterrupted quiet time, find a comfortable place to write (either at home or in nature where you cannot be disturbed), have plenty of writing materials, good lighting and simply write your heart out. This is a no holds barred session between you and your heart. Do not hold anything back. This is strictly for you and what’s inside of you that has been yearning to come out for awhile. I promise you will be amazed by what pours out of you.
Fear of failure
I feared being vulnerable and letting the world see inside my soul. After giving it some time to grow into, I became ready and fearless. Why not? We only have this one life and can help others by sharing our lives.
You will think of yourself as a failure for not writing your book. Diminish the thought of regret. Get started once and for all.
Writing an entire book is far too difficult
Yeah. The thought of how difficult it is to write a book nearly stops everyone. It gets easy. You just have to get started and have a plan. I overcame this challenge the hard way and sat on a half-written book for 4 months. Don’t make the mistake of not planning things out.
An entire book is a huge undertaking when it’s not broken down into bite size pieces. After your brain dump, take time to decide what key areas you want to write about and break them down into an outline. Take it further and section your writing by chapter.
You simply do not have enough time in the day to write
I found the time and realized that morning’s worked best for me. Make a plan and stick to it. Some folks take 3 to 6 months with a plan because they are fully committed, but most take 1-year. Go easy on yourself.
Make a commitment to yourself to take the time, include a start and end date. Try giving up a few hours of television or something you might not miss anyway.
Fear of success
I had to get over the fear of success because I don’t like hate and jealousy. These last few years I’ve grown up and really don’t care what others think of me. It’s my life.
We all deserve to be seen, heard and published. You just might find the sweet success of the life you’ve always dreamed of as an author. Your ability to give back in a huge way is a great way to create a lasting legacy.
You wonder “Who am I to write a book?”
Goodness me! I wondered that myself and grew to accept that I mattered just like everyone else. I deserve to be heard.
Your life story matters just as much as everyone else. Your story might help or heal another life or make it not seem as challenging. You never know. Someone may thank you for doing so.
I don’t want to embarrass myself of my family
I want my story to help others and that’s pushing me forward more than anything else. I have big plans and know that my family will be proud of my accomplishments.
Your voice deserves to be heard. Others will admire you and respect you more. You will gain more credibility as an author and will open up more opportunities. Your family loves you and supports you.
